Ambition North Wales – Clean Energy Feasibility

Greener Edge were appointed as delivery partners by Ambition North Wales and Welsh Government, producing application-ready feasibility studies for a portfolio of clean energy projects across all six North Wales counties. Each study combined detailed technical and financial analysis which covered solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, wind and hydro, with structured reporting aligned directly to Wales Council for Voluntary Action (WCVA) and Clean Energy Fund requirements.

Across the programme, Greener Edge delivered six full feasibility reports and three lighter-touch assessments, covering community buildings, heritage sites, sports facilities and land-based projects. Two knowledge transfer events ensured learning reached organisations beyond those directly funded, building wider regional capacity for clean energy delivery.

Caban – Solar, Battery and Heat Pump Installation

Greener Edge first supported Caban, a community hub near Llanberis, in 2022, to develop their energy and carbon strategy. That groundwork later enabled them to access Welsh Government funding to fully decarbonise their heating and energy systems, with Greener Edge appointed to project manage the entire installation.

We oversaw the procurement and installation of a 30kWp solar PV array, 68kWh of battery storage and two air source heat pumps – coordinating across three specialist contractors from design through to commissioning. The project was delivered on time, on budget and to specification, and demonstrates the value of long-term trusted relationship in turning net zero ambition into funded, delivered reality.

Church of England – Decarbonisation Strategy

The Church of England is targeting net carbon zero by 2030 across a portfolio of over 16,000 buildings. Greener Edge was commissioned to carry out energy audits across selected churches in 11 dioceses, visiting each building to understand its heating system, energy consumption and the specific needs of its congregation – from ageing furnaces to draughty doors to infrequent usage patterns.

Over 240 churches have now received bespoke reports mapping out a clear path towards decarbonisation, from quick wins like draught proofing and smart heating controls, through to the full decommissioning of fossil fuel systems and solar PV modelling. Churches consistently tell us that our approach is accessible and energising – turning what can feel like an overwhelming challenge into a practical, achievable plan.

South Yorkshire MCA – SME Energy Audits and Low Carbon Grants

As part of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Greener Edge was appointed to a framework of environmental consultants to deliver energy audits, and support low carbon grant applications for SMEs across Sheffield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Wakefield. For each business, we produced a Scope 1 and 2 carbon footprint, carried out a site visit, and identified three costed energy saving interventions – from insulation and heat pumps to solar PV, lighting upgrades and EV chargers.

Across Phrase 1 of the project, 10 low carbon grants were awarded on the strength of our audits, unlocking £296,000 of investment in real interventions. The recommended measures are projected to save 52 tonnes of CO2e annually – over 1,000 tonnes across the lifetime of the installations.

Valley Invicta Academy Trust – Estate Energy Audits

Greener Edge carried out a comprehensive programme of energy audits across the full Valley Invicta estate – a mix of primary and secondary schools varying in size, age and construction – over a focused two-week period. Each audit covered building fabric, heating and cooling systems, hot water, lighting, controls and occupancy patterns, with the team guided through plant rooms by VIAT operations staff before auditing each site in full.

Individual reports for every site were complimented by an estate-wide master document bringing together all recommended interventions, consumption data analysis, building performance data, and a boiler priority register. Greener Edge also validated the existing boiler register and produced preliminary solar models for appropriate sites, giving VIAT a clear, evidence-based foundation for long-term investment decisions.

Welsh Government – Welsh Food & Drink Net Zero Tool

The Welsh government’s previous approach to collecting emissions data from food and drink businesses relied on a single questionnaire of over 150 questions – time-consuming, difficult to complete and prone to delays. Greener Edge was commissioned to design and build a new solution from scratch: a streamlined digital tool using Microsoft Forms, Excel and Power Automate that breaks data entry into manageable steps businesses can complete at their own pace.

The tool automatically calculates emissions using GHG Protocol, DEFRA and WRAP methodologies, flags data errors for assessors, and can generate a fully calculated carbon footprint instantly when needed. Businesses find it far easier to engage with alongside day-to-day operations, assessors benefit from faster and more consistent outputs, and the Welsh Government gains a cleaner, standardised view of sector-wide emissions – with administrative burden reduced across the board.
