Heat Loss Calculations
Heat loss calculations help to better understand how efficiently a building is performing and highlight areas for focused improvement. Normally heat loss calculations are done prior to any building fabric upgrades (e.g. windows, doors, insulation etc.). They require onsite data collection and follow-up analysis.
A full heat loss assessment for a building includes measuring the thermal performance of building fabric, windows, roof, doors and any other significant elements (using thermal imaging), and then a desk review of the collected data.
Priority areas for improvement are identified, recommendations for improvement made, and the energy saving and carbon reduction potential of implementing these recommended improvement quantified.
Recommendations can sometimes include better building management as opposed to physical upgrades or changes. Doing a heat loss assessment prior to deciding on building upgrades or retrofits helps ensure you choose the most cost-effective and emissions-reducing options available.
